Dr. Shamim completed his Internal Medicine residency at Brooklyn Hospital Center and his Psychiatry residency at Howard University Hospital in 2010, and has taught as an Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate University Hospital.

Payment is due before each treatment. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' telephone notice carry a $50 fee for treatment sessions, charged to the card on file. A no-call/no-show fee is $250.

Dr Shamim is so amazing. The ketamine assisted therapy has helped me more than I can say! He combines talk therapy with the infusions. The atmosphere is very peaceful and tranquil. His PA, Talia, is also wonderful, together they create a place that feels like a home instead of going to a clinic. I completed the treatment and only go for boosters now. I have been able to get off SSRIs completely, re-attend college, and feel confident in the course of my life. I definitely recommend this practice over all others.

About ketamine, in plain language.
What is ketamine?
Ketamine has been used as an anesthetic for years. It has recently emerged as a rapid-acting and effective treatment for mood disorders at doses lower than those used in anesthesia.
How does ketamine work?
The way ketamine produces its antidepressant effect is still debated, but it is likely through the glutamate system. That is a different route from traditional antidepressants, so it can potentially help people who have not responded to earlier treatments.
Which psychiatric conditions is ketamine best proven for?
The practice treats major depressive disorder and bipolar depression. People with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are considered case by case for potential investigational use of intravenous ketamine.
How long do the effects last?
Long-term effects are not yet fully known. Emerging evidence suggests some people stay well for several months, and some for longer. Others need booster sessions to maintain their wellness, typically about once a month.
